| | | | | Hello, Riverside Families!
I hope you have all been able to handle all of this snow! It certainly made January interesting. The Sioux City Community Schools changed student contact to hours instead of days as of this school year. Due to this, at this time, none of the school days that have been missed will need to be made up at this time. This could change if we have additional snow days in the future. We will be sure to communicate this with you.
Welcome to Mrs. Girard
Mrs. Katelyn Girard will be taking over as one of our special education resource teachers. She was able to start with us on Monday, January 15. We are very happy to have her at Riverside. She is already working on building positive relationships with students, staff, and families. We wish her a warm Riverside Welcome!
Riverside Principal Change I wanted to let you all know that I will not be the principal at Riverside Elementary next year. I have decided to take a Tier One Coordinator position that the District is putting into place next school year. I will be assigned to work with two or three elementary schools and will target working with the staff in those schools on literacy, math, and social-emotional learning in the general education classroom.
I have enjoyed my time at Riverside Elementary. I love the students, staff, and families. The staff at Riverside is top-notch. They are dedicated to student achievement and building positive relationships with everyone. I can't express how much I will miss the students at Riverside. I have loved getting to know them all. To you, the families, I want to say thank you for all you do for your children. I have loved getting to know all of you as well. Riverside will always hold a very special place in my heart. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do before June 30th to help you or your child.
Mr. Mozer, the Director of Elementary Education for the Sioux City Community School District, will be conducting interviews for the new principal in the next few months. He will then communicate with you who the new principal will be. I plan on helping the new principal in anyway that I can.
ELPA Testing:
The Sioux City Community Schools will be administering the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) to all English Language Learner (ESL) students from Monday, February 12 through Friday, February 23. Students will work with our ESL teacher, Ms. Nolan and me, on these assessments in small groups. They will be tested in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. We know these students will show all that they know and do their very best on this assessment.
Questions:
Please call the office if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to working with you all this school year.

When a student receives their device, it is their responsibility to take appropriate care of the device. Unfortunately, the District has hundreds of devices damaged or destroyed each year. Damage to devices or lost devices could result in fines and reduced Internet access. Detailed information on fees is available in the Parent/Guardian and Student Handbook on the District website. We encourage you to remind your student about the responsibility that goes with having a device. | Download the District’s Mobile App The District’s mobile app provides quick and convenient information at your fingertips. Download the mobile to receive push notifications from the District about closings and cancellations and stay updated on today’s school lunch menu, upcoming events, and school news. If you believe the weather provides a sincere reason why you may have to keep your student at home, or take your student home when classes are scheduled to continue, you as a parent or guardian will simply need to contact our school office to let us know. | | | | Click here for the Sioux City Community School District Community Resource list that is a valuable directory of services for our families and community partners.
